Menemen is a popular and delicious Turkish dish that is often served as a breakfast or brunch option. It is a flavourful and hearty dish made with eggs, tomatoes, peppers, and various spices.
Menemen is typically cooked in a single pan, making it easy and quick to prepare.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 small Onion, finely chopped
- 2 Tomatoes, diced
- 2 green Peppers, diced
- 3 large Eggs
- 1 tsp Aleppo Pepper
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika Powder
- Salt
- Black Pepper
Instructions
Heat the Olive Oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
Add the chopped Onions to the pan and sauté until they become translucent.
Add the diced Tomatoes and green Peppers.
Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables soften.
Stir in Aleppo Pepper, Paprika, Salt and Pepper.
Create small indentations in the vegetable mixture for each egg you'll be using.
Crack the Eggs into the wells.
Leave undisturbed for a minute then scramble the Eggs.
Cook for a few minutes until the Eggs are cooked but still runny.
Variations
Use Turkish Sivri Peppers instead of Green Peppers. Or Padron Peppers.
Add Other Spices and Seasonings such as Parsley, Garlic.
Serving Suggestion
Serve the Menemen hot directly from the pan with crusty bread on the side for dipping.
Serve with a crumbling of Feta Cheese for extra creaminess and tanginess.
Storage
Menemen is best cooked and eaten fresh.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Reheat in a pan on the stove.
